Wishlist Meme

How It Works:
Post to your DW/LJ (publicly or locked) with a list of ten things you want to receive for the holidays. They can be anything, from a personalized DW/LJ icon or drabble to a purebred puppy - as long as all the items on the list are things that you genuinely want.
If there's anything on your list that needs to come to you through the mail, make your shipping address available, but please be safe about it and don't post that part publicly - just specify how people should go about getting it.
Next:
Look around your circle/friends list for others who have posted the meme. (The more who do, the better this works, so encourage them!) If you see a wish you can grant, GO FOR IT. You might find a little thing you can do for free that will make someone happy, or you might just discover that a stranger is longing for the exact boxed set of DVDs that you no longer want.
Don't spend money unless you want to, and don't commit to more than you can handle without stressing yourself. There are no rules to this project, no guarantees, and no strings attached. If someone surprises you with a gift certificate to the restaurant you never thought you'd get to go to, don't feel guilty or obliged to return the favor. The point is to spread around a lot of opportunities to grant wishes - use them as you see fit, and remember that your list gives those opportunities to others!
Tips:
Dream big, but stay practical. If you really want the Mercedes, put the Mercedes on the list, but don't forget that you also really want some feedback on the story you wrote - so put that on the list too. It's fun to imagine something huge happening through this meme, but we'll recognizes the unlikelihood of it and make sure our friends still have a chance to do something thoughtful that's within their means.
Put limits on yourself for what, but not who: if you've decided that you can spend a few hours drawing a picture, but none of your friends are asking for one, keep looking for wishlists - you might even make a new friend or two! Ask people to link their lists for you, and don't be afraid to post your own in a few places.
Let's make some wishes come true this year!
1. Make a donation to the charity of your choice. I'm a big believer in giving back when you can and just a few dollars can add up to a big difference.
2. I've been going thru some health issues lately (thankfully nothing really serious), and could use some pick-me-ups -- comment with anything silly or funny, pics, gifs, jokes whatever -- I could use a few laughs!
3. Recipes -- I'm always on the lookout for quick, easy, healthy recipes -- preferrably with about 6-8 easy to find ingredients.
4. Fic recs -- I'm currently harboring an obsession for Clint/Natasha from the Avengers and would love to get fic recs. Anything without character death and with a happy ending. Pics and/or artwork recs are welcome too!
5. Send me a postcard or Christmas card. I'd love to get a postcard from your neck of the woods! PM me for a mailing address.
6. If you know of any place I can find killer whale/orca fabric, let me know. I've checked out eBay and a couple of on-line fabric shops, but if you happen across something drop me a link or a store name or a web-site.
7. Book recs -- what have you enjoyed reading lately? Are there any books that you consider "must reads"? I'd also love to have some recs for fantasy genre dragon books. I've read the Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey and also the first few books in the Temeraire series by Naomi Novik. Any other good ones out there?
8. This one might sound a little silly -- but, what the heck! Snack ideas -- I'm looking for easy, healthy, snack ideas for that mid-afternoon, post-lunch, just want a little nibble, kind of hunger. Something that doesn't need to be in the fridge and that I can keep in my desk.
9. Easy to use family tree software -- I'm thinking of starting to research my family history and would like to have an idiot-proof program to help me out. Any ideas?
10. A Dodge Charger, in red. Barring, you know, actually buying me my dream car -- do you know anybody who has one? What do they think of it? Is it roomy? Comfortable? Worth the price? A fun drive?
Link your lists in the comments, and I'll see what I can do for you. Or for others on your f-list.
Have fun with this! And have a great Christmas!

I'll have to checkout your recs -- thanks so much!
Pern -- my favorite place as a teen. I kept several of the books and still like to reread them. I'll freely admit that my main characters to follow were Lessa and F'lar. Most of the earlier and later in time books didn't hold as much interest for me. I even have the "original trilogy" on CD so I can listen in the car on my commute.
I've enjoyed the first couple of Temeraire books but I'm not nearly as hooked on those as on the Pern ones.

However, that said, I don't see Natasha as a goldrider. I think she would have a green dragon, Clint and Bruce would have browns (though Bruce's would be as large as Canth), and Tony, Thor, and Steve would have bronzes. I see Maria as a goldrider because she's in a leadership position if she's a rider at all and not helping Fury rule the Lower Caverns. Steve would be their wingleader, Clint the wingsecond, with Tony and Thor regularly grandstanding. They're the squad that handles the rogue Thread, the one that no regular wing formation will be able to handle. They were each recruited from different Weyrs because they're all ace flyers and unconventional to boot. Natasha's Russath is smaller than even most greens, but she's fast and nobody can match her in agility. C'lint's Iowath has the best aim and doesn't need much firestone to make a point. St'ven's Brooklyth is a fine beast, a burnished bronze that seems downright wholesome. T'or's Molnirth is a hammering force of a brute. And you don't want to cross T'ny's Ironth because he will knock you down.
Also, with that hair, you know that Natasha had to have come from Ruatha Hold, which means she and Clint were recruited from Fort Weyr. Clint traveled with the Lillencamps before he was discovered on a Search. Steve came from Benden, weyr-bred but always seen as too small to be a proper rider. He stunned them all by Impressing at a young age (hmm, remind you of anybody? ;)). Tony is from Telgar (where he regularly worked on mining equipment when he wasn't busy with his weyr duties), Bruce from Igen (because, hey, dust: India), and Thor is from the Southern Weyr because they don't grow them that big up north.
ETA: Plus, greens are sterile, which fits my rather sad headcanon for Natasha.
So, sorry I can't offer you the fic, but I can give you the headcanon! ;) And those dragon pictures you linked below are stunning. I want them on my wall.
Have you read Patricia Wrede's dragons quartet??

I'll just have to keep hope that you'll eventually break and write Avenger's of Pern -- I can be pretty good at feeding plot bunnies.
45,000 word Avenger's AU fic -- AWESOME!
I've not read Patricia Wrede or Mercedes Lackey, but they're on my list now. Thanks for the recs.

I see you feeding this plotbunny. I'd yell at you for that, but I like this plotbunny. Make sure it gets lots of water, too, I guess. :)
You'll see the fic soonish, I promise. You'll probably see another one from me before that, but it's Tony/Pepper focused and for a charity thing, so not my usual thing. I'd go with Wrede before Lackey, by the way. Dealing with Dragons is a really fast read, but absolutely delightful.

Steve as an Oldtimer who had to leave holder girl Peggy behind -- perfect fit. Maybe he just impressed or is just beginning his training. This particular wing could then also be one of F'lar's new ideas -- and to keep it on the lowdown from the Oldtimers, they aren't set up in a Weyr, but rather a Hold -- Fury's Hold? Then Maria wouldn't necessarily need to be a rider. And Fury's helping F'lar and Robinton with garnering information on the Oldtimers so part of the wing's responsibilies include some spying?
I promise to feed him and water him and take him for walks and clean up after him and play with him. Please can we keep him?

Fury's hold is brilliant. They could be situated on an island to keep the other dragons from really getting too curious/flying all the way out to find them. There's a whole group of riders that fly watchflights, plenty of sun for the dragons, and you have your elite crew that lead the way to rogue Thread patterns. Because they're made up of all different Weyrs, nobody's really beholden to anybody (though F'lar and a few others regularly provide beasts for when they tire of fish). It's not a proper Weyr, but damn if it's not effective.
When's your birthday, out of curiosity?

Oh, an island hold -- excellent. Depending on how far along the timeline is, they'd have an opportunity to spy on the Oldtimers in the south. And search out some fire lizard nests. I'm thinking on how Pepper could fit in -- Tony left her in charge of his family's hold when he impressed? She could help Fury's hold with supplies and communication?
I was an awesome tax deduction for my parents -- my birthday is December 31.

Plus, one of the characters in the books shares my name :D Imagine my awe at stumbling upon that!
